April 11th, 2020
As the Covid-19 Pandmeic landed in the US, I found myself making the tough decision to leave my New York adventure a bit early and head to the slightly less populated region of Alaska (27,000 people psm in New York City vs. 1 person psm in Alaska). In an effort to keep my family and my community safe, I spent March 15th- March 29th in home-quarantine. Needless to say, I had a lot of time on my hands, and the following videos ensued. Through posting these videos on facebook, I knew they were bringing a lot of people joy, so I tried to keep it light most days. I was able to find joy every day, but as the weight of my new reality set in, both on a personal level, and across the globe, I experienced a wide range of feelings over my two weeks, feelings I know most of us are still working through as I write this on April 11th. Schools are closed. Non-essential businesses are closed. My summer community of Skagway is devastated with the uncertainty of the cruise-ship industry. Unemployment rates are at 19%, and I myself am a member of those statistics. However, I am safe, and healthy, and only need to provide for myself, with a massive safety. I am f***ed. And I am immeasurably blessed. I hope you enjoy a snapshot of the first two weeks of my Pandemic Life.
